We had a call from the social authorities in our region.  There was a girl, four years old that was taken to hospital, she was starving.

The mother did not care much for her little girl; she was more interested of alcohol and men.

When the girl Marina came to us, we all reacted that she was so thin.  She was almost like from a picture from the Holocaust

She was full of flea-bite on her arms, and we also had to cut her hair and do disinfection.

Sitting at the table and see so much food was new for her.  The first day she did not eat so much, but now she has good apatite.

Our Labrador Ami came and sat near her. She looked at the dog, touched Ami carefully, and said.  She does not bite me, she said surprised.

We understood her reaction, when we heard that Marina had spent a lot of time in a dog kennel outside the house.

When the mother wanted to go out and drink vodka she put Marina in the doghouse, together with a not so nice dog.

Also when men came to visit her mother, she placed Marina in the doghouse.

This is a terrible story and I remember how I wondered, what to say, and how to help this little girl.

The answer in me was, God will help, he will give His love through our staff, and through the other children, who all have a tragic background, but have experienced Gods love, and now give it to others.

We where touched when we saw how the nine year old Alona took care of Marina, like she was her mother.

Diana gave up her place in the girls room, to give a nice place to the new of the Friends House Family

She did not mind to sleep in the big room, not so comfortable, but that was ok, more important was that Marina should feel that she was welcomed.

Marina earlier never experienced love, when we wanted to hug her she didn’t know what to do.

After two weeks she had learned that it is nice to be hugged, and she gladly sit on my lap when we have our prayer in the morning.

This is what Friends House is for.

To be a safe heaven, a place where the children experience the love of God, and a hope for a better future.
